Passed away December 2023

Our dear member artist, Nina Adkins passed away on December 29th 2023.

Nina Adkins will be remembered as delightful with a calm, unassuming way of accomplishing many things. As a nurse she also taught nursing. She also decided to start doing watercolors to express her creative side in 1986. She took many workshops with nationally known artists and developed her own unique style; her art was whimsical and full of bold colors, reflecting her delightful, feisty, and full-of-joy personality.

Nina became a signature member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society. She served as co-chair for Western Federation of the Watercolor Society when it was held here in 2002. Nina was on the board of the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair for four years and was the standards chair in 2010. Another organization where she contributed her many talents was the National League of American Pen Women. Along with being active in the arts community, Nina was a long-time member of Yucca Gallery holding the position of treasurer for many years. Nina with a few others created The Gallery ABQ, another artists cooperative. In 2022, Nina was selected as one city’s Local Treasures by the Albuquerque Art Business Association. Nina had a great sense of humor and was always smiling and laughing during the events she attended.

It was an honor to know this amazing woman and she was well loved by all. Her accomplishments were many as were her friends. Nina was a treasure in all she did and to all the people who knew and loved her. Her contagious smile and humor will be greatly missed.
